On July 2nd, 2016, the sixth Jingshi English voluntary teaching activity with students of the party branch of the School of Foreign Languages (SFL) as teachers greeted its closing graduation ceremony where the children presented their reporting performances. They arrived at the classroom at 3:30 p.m., and then the ceremony officially started. The teachers reviewed them the points learned this term by letting them sing English songs, play games, give reports and other interesting means. With Ms. Linda teaching them to sing English songs, they could not only gain knowledge about English, but also had an experience of exotic culture. In the end, every student was given certificates of graduation and award.
The teaching activity offers enlightening and guiding English classes to children of BNUZ teachers and other staff. These classes are designed to correspond with these children’s age and psychology under the guidance of professional teachers and are taught by students who are outstanding and active party members having both good grades and character. Nine classes on topics such as daily communication, sensation, food, animal, number and family member have provoked their enthusiasm in learning English by holding lively activities and using colorful and diverse teaching tools.
Ms. Wang Yan, Deputy Secretary of the Party’s General Branch of SFL, gave her summary of and high compliment on the voluntary teaching activity. She believed English teaching towards children should be aimed at cultivating their interest, and the basic skill of the teachers is of vital importance in the process. She provided guidance to the selection of textbooks, the content and the method to teach. Student councellors Ms. Luo Ming, Ms. Zhang Jingyi and Ms. Liu Jinzhe made ample preparation for the activity, and Ms. Lai Zeling, the secretary of teaching affairs of the school participated in it and was well received by the parents for employing flexible teaching methods. Applying professional knowledge to the practice, the activity worked as a great platform for students of the party branch to serve the grass roots and the society.
