Mr. Leck Wall

Hi. I’m Leck Wall from a small town in the middle of the United States. Actually, I grew up 50 kilometers from a town of 7,000 people. I lived on a farm for the first 18 years of my life. In first grade, I missed 18 days of school because I was helping my dad move cattle. I even milked a cow a few times. My dream as a child was to be a horse jockey due to my love of horses. Unfortunately jockeys must be small, and I am a very large person. I moved on from that dream.

After high school I went to the same school that several of my friends went, but I spent too much time hanging out with those friends. In an attempt to branch out, I decided to spend a summer in China. I studied in Shenyang Normal University and fell in love with China. After that experience, I changed my major to English in an effort to become a teacher in China.

I accumulated too much debt while studying, so upon graduation I taught in Korea and saved money. I became the head teacher at a “hagwon” (training center) in Gwangju, South Korea. I enjoyed my time there, but after a year and a half I had to go home to see my brother get married, and I really wanted to teach in China.

I went home, went to the wedding, and worked on my dad’s farm for a few months. I received a job offer from a school in Harbin, and I was excited about moving to northern China. That was in 2008, and it ended up that all of the Visa offices were swamped with people coming for the Olympics. So I never ended up teaching in Harbin. I had resigned myself to working on the farm for another year when I received an offer to teach in Guangzhou.

I spent almost 3 years teaching in Peizheng. I spent my vacations traveling all over China. I have even spent the past 2 summers showing my family around Guilin, Chengdu, and Xian. I have savored my time in China, and plan to continue doing so in Beijing Normal University Zhuhai. I am really excited about the diversity of the students. I have all ready met students from all over China, and I am hopefully to learn more about your story.

My dad is a farmer and a banker, while my mom is a house wife (and the best cook in the world). I have a younger brother and a younger sister. Both of them are married. My sister teaches reading at an elementary school, and her husband is in charge of the audio department of a music college. My little brother just graduated, but he plans to sell insurance until he makes enough money to get his postgraduate degree. His wife is a recent graduate as well. I do not have a wife or a kid or a dog or a cat, but I will have a lot of students to keep me company soon. That is plenty about me. Thanks for reading, and if you see me, don’t be afraid to say “hi” or ask me a few questions.
