The English corner this week was held on 19th of December at 6 p.m. in the lobby of the library. It was another chilly Wednesday but the topic-Your Favorite Festival warmed the atmosphere a lot. The present overseas teachers were Mr. Leck Wall and Mr. Michael Beauchot.
As we all knew, Christmas was around the corner. Mr. Leck Wall said it was his favourite festival. In his hometown, there is always a long holiday lasting 4 weeks for Christmas. However, what is a pity is that most of the overseas teachers would still have to work on that special day. When it came to the students, most of them liked the Spring Festival, while the others preferred Mid-Autumn Festival or Dragon Boat Festival.
Mr. Michael Beauchot, who just looked like Santa Claus with his full beard and symbolic coca-cola, said his favorite festival was Thanksgiving Day. This festival is celebrated on the fourth Thursday in November. And then he explained that, instead of the way to celebrate, he appreciated the resource of Thanksgiving. Still, two years away from home made him miss the delicious roast turkey which cannot be served in China. In addition, Mr. Michael Beauchot also shared the students with his opinions of something else ranging from Chinese celebrities to news and current affairs.
It goes without saying that the English Corner is such a wonderful activity that not only helps students to improve their oral English and broaden their horizons but also narrows the distance between the overseas teachers and the students as well.
