Wednesday is always exciting for students because of the English Corner. And this time there was no specific topic, so the students and overseas teachers could talk about anything they were interested in.
Mr. Martin Stannard firstly expressed his own opinion upon the new location of the English Corner, and he thought library would be a better place, as it’s large enough for many students or even passers-by to join in the activity. And then, the students heard that Mr. Stannard had been teaching in our school for 7 years, which surprised them a lot. He said he loved teaching here and pointed out some aspects that could be improved. For example, smaller size of classes is better for language teaching, as efficient and sufficient communication could be better achieved in a smaller group of students. As for a question by a girl who is planning to study in Britain, Mr. Stannard said that as a British, he considered London is definitively a busy city with booming economy and numerous opportunities, but at the same time not suitable for living.
Mr. Gerard Brent was also chatting happily with the students. When being asked the reason to come to China, he admitted that there might not be any reason. Also, he shared some interesting stories he had experienced in Zhuhai, such as walking to a wrong classroom. Finally, they talked about the Halloween festival. As what Mr. Stannard mentioned, Mr. Brent said that the holiday might be more popular in America. For him, he would prefer to celebrate Christmas.
Due to the change of location, only two overseas teachers and around 15 students came to the English corner. However, the activity still didn’t finish until 8:20 p.m., which showed that everyone cherished this opportunity to communicate with overseas teachers.
