Academic lectures given by English native teachers from the Faculty of Foreign Languages came to an end successfully on May 26. These lectures were thought highly of by both students and teachers of our university. The seven lectures held this semester cover a wide range of themes, including language, culture, philosophy, geography, social life and high technology. These lectures not only broadened students’ horizons, but also increased their interest of English study.

Among the seven lectures, Ms. Linda Visner analyzed the connections between language and its history background; Mr. Tim Musgrave introduced the details of the history of the Reality TV; Mr. David Riddiford introduced the diverse and unique wildlife in Australia; Mr. Chad Glass analyzed the different values about luck and fate between Chinese and western cultures; Dr. Ann Henry introduced the status of the women film makers in the 20 centuries; Mr. Martin Stannard gave a philosophy lecture entitled ‘The Meaning of Life’; and Mr. Jack Merrington focused on an advanced technology called PRT (Personal Rapid Transit). Every lecture was of great theoretical and realistic significance and each was interesting enough to attract many audience.

The success of these lectures demonstrated the academic level of the Faculty of Foreign Languages. At the same time, they contributed to students’ study of English language and culture. Both teachers and students are looking forward to the lectures next semester.
