On March 24th , Ms. Joleen Peternel, a foreign teacher from Canada, shared her scuba diving experiences with us. She told us that she had been living in Asia for 7 years. In Korea, she took part in the scuba diving test, and there was only one girl in the team. For the first day, a written test about regulations and basics was held; for the second and third days, underwater tests were conducted in order to evaluate one’s diving ability as well as the ability to help others..
In her opinion, both the oceans in China and Korea were dirty and badly polluted. She showed us some pictures of oceans taken in Singapore and Thailand. The ocean was blue; the water and the sky merged in one color. All of the students felt the charm of the ocean. What’s more, she introduced some marine wildlife underwater. They were beautiful, but dangerous. They could sting you even though you wore a diving suit.
Surprisingly, Ms. Joleen Peternel brought her diving equipments, and showed us how to use them. Among those equipments, masks and flippers were the basic and the most important ones. In the meantime, devices such as wetsuits, air tubes, strength-regulating vests, diving meters and calculating watches were also essential.
This lecture gave us insight into scuba diving. Students were more interested in this amazing sport.
