12月23日，在这个温和美好的星期三晚上，同学们齐聚英语角与外教们展开了愉快的交流。今晚到场的外教是Ms. Amy Elizabeth Call和Mr. Martin Stannard。
一开始，有同学说起珠海空气质量很不错，比北京严重的雾霾好多了。Martin也表示认同，但他又认为由于汽车和工厂增加，珠海的空气质量正在下降。有人认为这是现代化的一个过程，Martin同意这样的说法但认为政府需要努力去改善环境，保证国民的健康。他对如狄更斯笔下《雾都孤儿》那样大雾弥漫的城市表示担忧。
同时，Amy向同学谈及自我认知，她与同学们分享了她在香港遇见的内观禅修。它要求人在十天内呆在一个房间，每日进食一次，无音乐，无书本，无网络，无言语，只与导师对话，只是尝试认识自我。她笑说自己仅仅坚持了20分钟，但这令她感受到了内心的平静，这种体验让人从碌碌浮生中脱离出来，让人审视真我。有同学认为内观禅修很难完成，但也有同学认为这很有趣。
不知不觉，英语角进入了尾声，在谈笑间，师生共步离开了图书馆。
English Corner: The Cognition of Environment and Self

On the evening of December 23rd, students got together in the English corner to start cheerful communications. Ms. Amy Elizabeth Call and Mr. Martin Stannard attended the English Corner.
In the beginning, a student said the air quality in Zhuhai was not bad. Martin agreed with this point but he thought the increasing number of cars and factories made Zhuhai’s air quality worsened. One student believed that it was a process of modernization and Martin agreed. Meanwhile, Martin thought the government should try their best to protect the environment and keep people healthy. What was more, he was worried about those foggy cities as what Charles Dickens described in Oliver Twist.
At the same time, Amy talked about self cognition and shared the Vipassana Meditation she experienced in Hong Kong. People were required to stay in the same room for ten days without music, books or the internet. People were not allowed to speak and could only have one meal every day. There were only two things people could do——talking with their tutor and trying to understand themselves. Amy said she persisted in Vipassana Meditation for only 20 minutes, but it still made her feel peaceful from the bottom of her heart. Such experiences let people get rid of their busy lives to reconsider themselves. Some of the students held the opinion that it was difficult to go through the whole process of Vipassana Meditation, but some of the students thought it was really interesting.
As time went by, the English corner came to an end. Finally, teachers and students left the library, talking and laughing.
