11月11日，对英语交流感兴趣的同学们早早来到图书馆开启了今晚的英语之旅。Mr. Aaron Richards 和Mr.Dennis Bake出席了本次的英语角。

首先，Aaron让各位同学分成小组讨论了关于家庭和教育的话题。期间，同学们对家族间不同人的称呼这个话题展现了极高的热情，讨论中，同学们发现中西的差别之一:英美称呼亲人倾向直呼其名，中国就有复杂的称谓体系。Aaron比较想了解独生子女政策，一位同学详细地向他解释了这一政策。后来，同学们分别讨论了中美之间幼儿教育的差异和中国城乡之间幼儿教育的差异。

另一边，Dennis跟同学讲述了他与妻子相遇、相知的经历，在双十一之际让同学们对爱情有所深思。由此，又有同学谈及了婚姻中女性的地位。有人认为在中国，女性婚后的独立性在减弱。而Dennis却给了同学们另一种思路，精神独立或许才是女性地位提高的关键。

夜色渐浓，一周一会的英语角又落下帷幕，毫无疑问的是，今晚同学们收获甚丰。

English Corner: Family and Marriage

On November 11th , students who were interested in communicating in English came to the library early to begin the discussion. Mr.Aaron Richards and Mr.Dennis Bake attended the English corner.

First, Aaron let students discuss the topic of family and education in groups. During the discussion, students showed great enthusiasm in how to address their relatives. They discovered the differences between China and western countries. Often, Westerners called the first names of their relatives while the appellation system in China was quite complex. Aaron wanted to know about the one-child policy and one of the students explained to him in details.

Dennis talked about how he met and knew his wife before marriage, which made students lost in thought on the day of Double Eleven, the Chinese singles’ day. Thereafter, students talked about the status of women in marriage. Some of the students thought that the independence of married women had been weakened. However, Dennis provided students with another way of thinking: in his opinion, mental independence of women was the key to improving the status of the females.

All the students had a good time in today’s English corner.
