Dr. Ann Henry Ann is from California and China will be the 10th country she has lived and taught in. She is the author of a produced, but alas, unreleased screenplay, and has published fiction and essays. In addition to reading, writing, and watching films, she enjoys travel, cooking, and hiking.

Women have of course been present in the world of American Cinema since its

beginnings, but only recently have they begun to be recognized as film directors and producers. This lecture will give a short history of women in film, and then focus on several contemporary women film makers, of both independent and commercial films.
