11月19日晚七点，来自澳大利亚格里菲斯大学的Indika Liyanage博士在励耘楼B406为外国语学院教师开设讲座。本次讲座主题为创新英语教学在亚洲的实践。院长陶文好教授主持了讲座。

讲座中，Indika Liyanage博士不仅用幽默的言辞展示讲座，便于教师们理解，还列举了许多教学实例。他提到，多数的斯里兰卡学生可以讲简单的英语并识别一些基本口语，但不能将英语熟练运用于工作和学习中。而中国英语学习者英语水平也参差不齐，譬如，城市学生的英语水平比乡村学生高。Indika Liyanage博士谈及亚洲英语教学中存在的问题时指出，西方学生可以在与同学们的讨论中获得知识，并逐渐形成各自不同的见解，而多数亚洲学生则仅仅将讨论视为简单聊天，反而过分依赖于教师的讲解。讲座的最后， Indika Liyanage博士与在场的老师相互交流了关于教学的种种设想及想法。

近距离的教学交流使老师们获益良多。声声讨论中，本次学术讲座圆满落幕。

An Academic Lecture for Staff: Innovative English Language Teaching Practices in Asia

At 7:00 p.m. on November 20th, the lecture for stuff members entitled Innovative English Language Teaching Practices in Asia was held successfully in Room B406 of Liyun Building. The speaker was Dr. Indika Liyanage.

Dr. Indika Liyanage attracted the audience by a sense of humour. In addition, he cited some examples to make sure the stuff members had a better understanding of the topic. He mentioned that there are some differences between students in Sri Lanka and China. The students in Sri Lanka are able to read simple English and recognize some spoken language, but they are not good at applying English to study or work. Meanwhile, there are vast differences in proficiency levels between students from urban and rural towns in China. Western students can learn much during their discussions, while Asian students pay more attention to their teachers’ explanations.

In the end of this lecture, the staff members communicated with Dr. Indika Liyanage freely and they shared teaching experiences with each other.
