The English corner was held in the library at 6 p.m., on December26th. Mr. Leck Wall, Ms. Sarah Tillman and Mr. Dallas attended the activity. After Christmas, a new year is approaching; it is the right time for people to make new goals for themselves. Students are eager to know how Western countries celebrate the New Year.
When Mr. Leck Wall was asked how to celebrate New Year in his own way, he said he would usually watch football games on television on the New Year’s eve or do the countdown to the New Year. Also, he would list two or three goals for the next year, such as to lose weight and to stop smoking and drinking alcohol etc. in order to improve his living habits.
Delicious food is also necessary for celebrating the New Year. Ms. Sarah Tillman talked about New Year''''s meal, including roasted turkey, roasted beef, spinach fried mushrooms, small dessert and pumpkin pies etc. Hearing about all these delicious food, students could not wait to try them.
During the New Year vacation, lots of people would prefer to travel to a warmer place with unique culture. Mr. Dallas told the students that traditional New year''''s food was southern peas and ham hock. As an old saying goes, "Eating peas on New Year''''s Day means having plenty of everything for the rest of year." All students were immersed in the New Year’s atmosphere of joy.
The last English Corner of this term ended in the beautiful song, Happy New Year, sang by the students. Both overseas teachers and students have made contributions to the English Corner. Happy New Year and let’s meet again next year.
