As one of the typical activities of the School of Foreign Languages, lectures by overseas teachers were held again this semester. At 7 p.m. on March 1st, Mr. Darren Mullins held the first speech named "The Road to Success" in LiZe Building Room C107.
Through some examples of failed experiences of celebrities, such as Thomas Edison, Elvis Aron Presley, Pete Rose and so on, Mr. Darren Mullins proved that if you want to succeed, don’t be afraid of failure and just try to do it. He thought that the word “desire” was equal to “want”. With his experience of learning playing the guitar, he said, “if you want to do something, you can do it”. In order to lead students to the road to success, Mr. Darren Mullins compared the differences between “Lasting Success” and “Fleeting Success”. At the same time, he shared his story when he worked with his cousin in a Residential Care Home, which helped students to understand the importance of pursuing Lasting Success.
“The man who desire for success must know his weakness and manage to win with the help of others.” With the question of how to succeed, Mr. Darren Mullins said, "nobody is perfect, you can hardly do anything without others'' help. All the successful men have the ability to make up their weakness with others'' advantages."
In the second part of this lecture, Mr. Darren Mullins recalled his musical life. Knowing his song got fourth prize, many students couldn’t help gasping in admiration. When Mr. Darren Mullins sang a wonderful song which was written by himself, the students not only recorded video for him but also asked for encore.
At the end of the lecture, many students came to ask him questions about success or guitar. There is no doubt that during the rendition, the pride and happiness shining on Mr. Darren Mullins’s face would encourage students present to struggle for success.
