At 7:00 p.m. on October 20, Mr. Byron Sherman, one of the native English teachers from the School of Foreign Languages, gave a lecture entitled "Meet the World''s Most Multilingual Woman" in LiZe Building C402.
At first, Mr. Byron Sherman made a brief introduction to the world''s most multilingual woman——Kató Lomb, the first simultaneous interpreter who is familiar with 16 languages. Then, he told us many skills of learning English according to Kató Lomb''s true stories and her book How I Learn Languages.. In his opinion, "all beginnings are difficult", and so is learning foreign languages. It is also like a castle that you need to besiege from far and near. Mr. Byron Sherman said that the most important basic to learn foreign languages is your interest which can encourage you to learn more. Finally, he answered a question about how to study several languages at the same time. "It will be easy if you learn one of the foreign languages well." Mr. Byron Sherman as a gentleman, who is familiar with 6 foreign languages, said that.
This lecture came to an end successfully with rapturous applause. The methods combining study with interest contribute to students'' confidence in studying languages. Some students said this lecture was very helpful.
