In order to give the parents of the freshmen an insight into the teaching plans of the English and Japanese majors and enhance the mutual cooperation of the parents and the school, the School of Foreign Languages held a parent-teacher meeting immediately after the orientation day on September 3, 2011.
Seventeen representatives of the freshmen’s parents attended this meeting in Room B206, Liyun Building. Present at the meeting were Professor Tao Wenhao, the Dean, Associate Professor Xie Qingli and Associate Professor Xie Wenting, the Vice Deans, Ms.Zhang Minli, the Vice Secretary of the Party General Branch, Ms. Gao Yuan, Director of the Administrative Office of the School.
Firstly, Dean Tao introduced the history of our university and school. He then came up with the future plan with regards to the development of the school. Then Mr. Xie Qingli and Mr. Zhen Wenkang introduced the teaching plans of the English major and Japanese major respectively. Ms. Zhang Minli gave a report on the number of graduates who were admitted to graduate programs of universities from home and abroad in 2010 and 2011. At last, teachers and parents exchanged views on the parents concerns.
Dean Tao promised that the teachers of School of Foreign Languages will teach with a careful and responsible attitude. In order to help freshmen to adapt to the new campus life, Dean Tao offered some suggestions that students should study and think independently and read as much as they can, make full use of the Internet properly, set long-term goals and learn to handle relationships with their classmates. Dean Tao hoped that parents could give suggestions for and make contributions to the development of the school.
The parents present said that this meeting enabled them to know the school better and they were very satisfied with the curricula of the English Major and the Japanese Major; they thought their children were lucky to be a member of the big family of the school and believed the school would have a brighter future.
After this meeting, the school will set up a parents’ committee, which will make contribution to the communication between teachers and parents. It is a great opportunity for parents to get to know more about the school.
