Professor Tao Wenhao Lecturing an Ideological and Political Lesson for Students of SFL
In order to implement the ideological and political spirits for college work in the meetings held by the nation and Guangdong Province and meet the requirement of an ideological and political theory lecture by Party Secretary of the School, professor Tao Wenhao, dean and party general secretary delivered a themed speech on " the Chinese Rejuvenation and foreign language talent strategy", in Leyu building C210 on September 25.
Professor Tao has made a detailed account of "the glory of the Chinese nation" and "the backwardness and humiliation of the Chinese nation", covering from the four major ancient civilizations to the Qin and Han Empires, from the prosperous Tang Dynasty to the Qing Dynasty decline. He illustrated that the Chinese nation has experienced prosperity, difficulties and hardships as well, but eventually it has been the only civilization that has never been interrupted and then rejuvenated compared with the other three ancient civilizations.
When speaking of the brilliance of the Chinese nation, professor Tao mentioned that it can be traced back to the Tang Dynasty. During the Tang Dynasty, our society, economy and diplomacy reached a highly respectable level in the world, surpassing many countries. The city of Chang’an also became the world cultural center at that time. Looking at the brilliance of the past, the eyes of the students are shining brightly. As a pride of the Chinese nation, we feel lucky to become a member of the Chinese nation. However, in the end of the Qing Dynasty, the Chinese nation was gradually declining, and slowly lagged behind the world to a country of poverty and backwardness. Paying reparations has dragged this great nation in a disastrous state and suffered humiliation. This is a history of the decline and a history of humiliation that all descents of Chinese should keep in mind, and it is also a catastrophe for the rejuvenation of the Chinese nation. At this special moment, everyone in the serious classroom seems to smell the smoke of the war, but also knows better the profound understanding of his own mission. Professor Tao seemed to lead the students to experience the bitter and sour experience of the history.
Professor Tao then told the reasons of foreign language learning among the whole country under the new situation. He pointed out that the Chinese nation has always been introducing outstanding culture in other countries and foreign language learning is to learn foreign advanced culture so as to improve our thinking and promote the development of Chinese society. Students applauded warmly when professor reviewed a series of major historical events, the great rejuvenation of the Chinese nation such as: 1997 Hongkong's return to the motherland, the return of Macao in 1999, the 2008 Beijing Olympic Games show that the Chinese nation is awakening and is increasingly seeking common co-development with other countries, cooperation and exchange.
It is young students who are at their best time of life who will witness the Chinese nation to be active at the center of the world stage and to rejuvenate the Chinese dream. It is hoped that the students in our School can remember the history, cherish the present and strive forward. Finally, professor Tao stressed the school motto “Love, knowledge, moral and integrity”, which has greatly encouraged the students to study hard, explore, and innovate to be the successors in the great rejuvenation.
