The Preliminary Contest by of the 7th Macau "Shangjiao" Business English Speech Contest Held on BNUZ Campus
On 10th October, 2017, the preliminary contest at the university level of the 7th Macau Business English Speech Contest named “Shangjiao”was successfully held in Room B107 of Leyu Building, Beijing Normal University at Zhuhai. More than 20 contestants from various schools and faculties were on the same stage to compete against one another, aiming at improving rigorous critical thinking skills and broadening their international horizons. Thus, an exchange platform for English learning was provided as well as enabling students to have a better knowledge of Macau, a city with both ancient and brand new features.
The theme of this speech contest was promoting the characteristics of Macau and Zhuhai. A lot of business-related areas were covered, including creative plan, market analysis, sales strategy, business mode and so on. Contestants were required not only to have a professional background in business knowledge, but also to speak, think and react fast and critically. It was hoped that contributions could be made to the diversified development of Macau as well as the building of a world-class tourism and leisure city. In the meantime, students’ business English proficiency and social practice ability were improved, which strengthened economic and cultural integration between Macau and surrounding areas.
After an intense competition, a team made up of Huang Jingwen, Chen Jiali, Zheng Ying, Zheng Qiaoyi, who are from the School of Foreign Languages and Zheng Hanyang from the International Business Faculty won the first prize. With her fluent English and adept presentation skills, Huang Jingwen won the title of “best speaker” and the winning team would be sent to participate in the Zhuhai final to be held in December on behalf of the university.
