On the evening of September 6, the School of Foreign Languages held successfully the opening ceremony for the freshmen of 2017 in room A111 of Liyun Building. Dean and Professor Tao Wenhao, Vice Dean and Associate Professor Xie Qingli, Vice Dean and Associate Professor Xie Wenting, Deputy Secretary of General Party Branch of SFL, along with more than 20 Chinese and foreign teachers, the freshmen of 2017 of the School as well as 23 postgraduate students attended the ceremony.

The ceremony started with a speech addressed by Dean Tao Wenhao who expressed his warmest welcome to the freshmen and extended his best wishes to them for a bright and wonderful campus life during their studies at SFL in the coming years. Then he introduced the recent development of the School, and highlighted the characterized major teaching and cultivation orientation. He also offered students some effective advice on how to learn more about oneself, maintain a sense of wonder and hunger for knowledge as well as make positive friends on campus.

Ms Matsushma and Mr. Koenig, the representatives of Japanese major teachers and English teachers, warmly welcomed the new students. Mr. Koenig extended his expectations from the freshmen after his voluntary work in typhoon Hato. Ms. Matsushma advised students the significance of persistence and efforts in learning Japanese. What’s more, sophomore student Wang Yiqin and Senior student Su Sujie impressed the freshmen by the eloquent and idiomatic French and Portuguese speeches respectively, which arouse the great interest in determining to learn a third foreign language.

Postgraduate student of 2017Linmin, international student Nadiia Mieshkova and freshman Wujiaxin also expressed their expectations and wishes to the new comers. The welcome video presented by the Student Union signified the end of the opening ceremony. It was reported that the enrollment in 2017 was inspiring with more than 300 freshmen and 23 postgraduate students admitted. Among them, the number and quality of the students who have taken choice to study in BNUZ were both prioritized compared with those in the previous years. The experienced and vigorous staff, especially 40% among whom are foreign teachers from native speaking countries guaranteed the conduction of teaching, thus providing chances of developing students in their global vision and critical thinking. The bi-foreign languages, interdisciplinary courses and bi-majors have laid great foundation for the quality-oriented development of the school.
