On June 1st, led by Professor Huang Yijing and Professor Zhong Qiren, seven guests from the Department of Applied Foreign Languages (AFL) of Central Taiwan University of Science and Technology (CTUST) and Veden Dental Group in Zhuhai visited the School of Foreign Languages (SFL) of BNUZ, and were warmly received by Dean Tao Wenhao, Vice Dean Xie Qingli and Deputy Secretary Wang Yan.
The meeting was held in a cordial and friendly atmosphere, in which Dean Tao extended a warm welcome to the guests at the beginning. It was the first time that our school received representatives from a Taiwan university, and we attached great importance to the visit of AFL of CTUST. Dean Tao elaborated on the basic information and schooling characteristics of BNUZ and SFL: the number of foreign teachers is as large as that of Chinese teachers, and it is our main characteristic to offer “dual” programs including dual enrollment, foreign language and degree; we have covered Taiwan, Japan, Portugal, Australia and the United States for extending student exchange programs; and we also have the vision to cooperate with other universities in Chinese mainland and Taiwan in an attempt to promote student exchange in areas where people speak Chinese as their mother tongue.
Professor Huang Yijing then gave a introduction of AFL: AFL focuses on cultivating both students’ foreign language and professional competence, with courses for English major as primary and for Japanese major secondary; they started foreign exchange programs many years ago, and have established cooperation with universities in Japan, Australia, England and others to receive their students two or three times every year. After that, Professor Zhong Qiren introduced Veden Dental Group in Zhuhai and its demand of foreign language talents, with an aim of building a base of practice and employment for students from SFL.
Both sides agreed on the fact that our cultures across the Straits share the same root, which helps lay the solid foundation for the collaboration of two universities. Having the same semester setting and cultivating concepts, the two sides have reached an agreement very soon on the establishment of student and teacher exchange program and the building of overseas practice base. Later on, accompanied by students of SFL, the guests made a tour around the campus and were deeply impressed by its scale and beauty.
After this meeting, both sides have reached a further understanding of each other and hoped to enter into deeper cooperation in the future.
