On the cool evening of June 1st, Mr. Martin Stannard, Dr. Phillip Stevenson and Mr. Aaron Richards attended the English corner.
Aaron said that not all western food would make people fat easily. Most people in western countries were concerned about healthy diet. He loved Chinese food so much especially dumplings. However, Chinese menu was too difficult to order so he just said “I want this and that” directly when he ate in canteen.
Phillip suggested things to do in London such as watching a band performance, listening to a famous opera and visiting some cultural museums. Britain was a country which needed to be experienced in a slow appreciation. Besides, Phillip advised students who would like to study abroad to be outgoing and active and to live a colorful campus life. He referred that Chinese teaching methods were like bowling, which meant teachers pushed students to learn. However, western teaching methods were like tennis because when teachers taught a knowledge point, students also needed to express their opinions. Phillip also mentioned that students should know the significance of learning in university.
In today’s English Corner, students learned a lot about the cultural diffences between China and overseas countries.
